How to use a Chromecast without a wifi router

Requires:

• a modem hooked up to the internet
• an ethernet cord
• a computer capable of broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal

Solution: 

1. plug your ethernet cable into your computer; ensure that your computer has internet access
2. if you own a Mac, go to system preferences > sharing, then choose internet sharing and select Wi-Fi (click here for more detail)
3. setup the Wi-Fi network according to your preferences
4. connect your phone to this new network
5. connect your Chromecast to this new network

You should now be able to enjoy your Chromecast without a Wi-Fi router and without eating up your mobile data plan.
